His horse, California Chrome, had won the Kentucky Derby, then the Preakness, and was running last Saturday for all his worth in the Belmont Stakes, vying to become just the 12th thoroughbred to win the Triple Crown. But it wasn’t meant to be.

Hero cat to ‘throw out’ first pitch at baseball game

After her heroics went viral, Tara is now being called the Ninja Cat.

Published reports say Tara the cat, made famous in a YouTube video that showed her saving a 4-year-old boy from a dog attack in Bakersfield, California, is going to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a local minor league baseball game. Wonder if she’s a southpaw?

UConn Women Huskies. Practically perfect in every way. Make that totally perfect.

March Madness is now April Whoopin’ Gladness in Connecticut. The UConn Women proved they’re in a league of their own last night, as they trounced Notre Dame by a score of 79-58 to win the NCAA basketball title.

Not exactly a cakewalk, but the UConn men fought hard against Kentucky to win the NCAA basketball tournament 60 to 54.

Women’s NCAA: Battle of the Giants

It’s the Battle of the Giants. UConn (39-0) vs. Notre Dame (37-0) in the NCAA finals. The first time in NCAA basketball history that two unbeaten teams will play for the title.

Although Connecticut is a small state, it makes a big splash in college basketball. For the fourth time, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at UConn have made it to the Final Four.

Sochi Olympics: Meryl & Charlie

Sochi Olympics, high points/low points so far

With snow days up the ying yang, I’ve had the opportunity to watch much more Olympics coverage on TV than I expected. Putting Bob Costas’ pinkeye aside, here are some of the high and low points I’ve seen so far:  

Super Bowl Sundae

Lighting cherries and kirsch for Super Bowl Sundaes.

The highlight of the Super Bowl for me was listening to Renée Fleming perform the best version of the National Anthem at a football game EVER.

The Seahawks decimated the Broncos, 43 – 8, and it was all about Beratin’ Manning.
