They say ignorance is bliss. For Red Sox fans that certainly was the case in 2013. Sox fans were riding high last summer as their team tore through the league, going from the previous year’s last place finish to division winners and American League Pennant champions.

Hersam Acorn Newspapers is a bit sadder today with the death of Susan Wolf, longtime editor of one of the company’s weekly Connecticut newspapers, The Redding Pilot. Sue died today around noon, after fighting a battle with lung cancer.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road — I bought the album first, then the 8-Track, yes the 8-Track which quickly got snarled in the player and had to be extracted yielding wads of tangled tape. Great invention…  Then bought it on cassette tapes, then the album again, then CD.

You have to have a special character to make ephemeral art from cookie dough. Unlike fancy dancy decorated wedding cakes which couples will pay thousands of dollars for, cookies, not so much. They’re smaller, generally simpler and not on the radar as “must have” edible artwork. There are cake decorating competitions on the Food Network, and another show on cable called Amazing Wedding Cakes, but no shows devoted to cookie decorating.

When homeowners in El Paso County, Colorado put two toilets and a sink on the property line in their front yard, neighbor Angela Johnson got upset. She didn’t want to look at those crappy old things. The homeowners wouldn’t remove them, so Angela built a fence so she wouldn’t have to look at them.
