Red Sox bring Yankees their Bee game
The rivalry is on! Red Sox vs. Yankees, spring training exhibition game at Steinbrenner Field in Florida. Even though this is merely glorified practice and doesn’t count, the Red Sox wanted to win this one.
How badly did they want to win it?
They went to biblical lengths to eke out a win. Down 5 to 0 in the third, neither their pitching nor their fielding was getting the job done. So they called on the “Big Man” for help.
Not David Ortiz, not that big man. He didn’t play.
No, they called on some divine inspiration, to delay the game or do something to get them out of the mess.
So lo, down from the heavens, the Big Man answered and a plague of locust-like honeybees swarmed the field.
It worked for a few minutes, there was a delay, but not quite enough time for the Sox to get their act together.
But thanks, the Sox appreciated the help!
And what was up with Mark Teixeira? During the swarmfest he came out of the dugout waving two bottles of honey in the air.
There just happened to be two bottles of honey in the Yankees dugout? Hmmm…. Do they also have agave nectar in there? Maybe some molasses? What are they doing with honey in there? Ohh…. maybe that’s what their pitchers use to prepare their fingers … yes, that makes sense.
So the Red Sox lost this one 8 to 1, and the swarm didn’t help. That’s okay, we have a few more tricks up our sleeves.
Let the games begin!
