Broadway Vacay Staycay

Wow, what a week! Nathan Lane, Alan Cumming, music, magic, spectacle, and a “Who knew?” performance by Andrea Martin.

I had a great time on my Broadway Vacay Staycay! Saw a whirlwind of Broadway shows plus a special tribute to Eliza Doolittle.

Last month, I announced my plans to take a week of vacation time and do nothing but see Broadway shows. As W would say, mission accomplished!

In the course of one week I saw Pippin, The Book of Mormon, The Nance, Macbeth, and a private reading of My Fair Lady that knocked my socks off. For a theater fan it doesn’t get much better than that. Read more…

Downton Abbey Sneak Peek: Nougatty

If you love Downton Abbey (and let’s face it, you either love it or you haven’t seen it), watch this very clever and lovely “Sneak Peek” of Episode One of the upcoming season, staged at 54 Below in New York.

Kudos to writers: John Walton West, Jason Michael Snow, Greg Monteith, Kevin Duda, Lisa Lambert, Simon Pearl, David McCall.

Performers: Christina Bianco, Jane Blass, Ron Bohmer, John Bolton, Catherine Charlebois, Alison Cimmet, Lewis Cleale, Rick Crom, Matt Doyle (fan favorite), Kathy Fitzgerald, Randy Graff, Jeremy Jordan, Mike Kelton, Leigh Ann Larkin, Christiane Noll, Laura Osnes, Jane Pfitsch, Tory Ross, Brian Sears, Tony Sheldon, Craig Schulman, Jennifer Smith, Elizabeth Stanley, Mary Stout, Tony Tillman, Rosie Colosi, Nikka Lanzarone, Adam Lendermon, Jess Patty, Nick Spangler, and Ryan Worsing.

And of course the Inimitable Imitator himself: Colin Mochrie

This is BRILLIANT! So good, I’d really like to see this production!

Broadway: Decisions, Decisions

BroadwayShowsFor some, vacation means an island getaway to St. Bart’s, or a cross country trek to beaches or mountains. For me, it means venturing just 70 minutes from home. To Broadway.

I’m using one week of my precious vacation time in May to take in as much of the Great White Way as possible. That means shows, shows, and more shows. Comedy, drama, musicals, cabaret, readings, and hopefully more.

A cheap Yankee, rather than staying overnight at The Benjamin — my favorite hotel, I’ll be a day-tripper. That will allow me to save a few benjamins for lunch, dinner, and cocktails in the Big Apple. Not such a bad staycation after all, eh?

So here’s the deal. There are so many wonderful shows on stage right now, what should I see? Read more…
