Condragulations Bianca Del Rio
If Don Rickles and Dave Chappelle had a baby, you’d get Bianca Del Rio. Figuratively. Well maybe even literally.
An insult comic with the sharpest wit and the ability to hilariously “read” someone at lightning speed, Roy Haylock aka Bianca Del Rio was crowned the Next Drag Superstar on RuPaul’s Drag Race last night.
Poised and polished with a laser-edged tongue, Bianca was a fan favorite from the get-go. I loved her too, but also loved challenger Ben DeLaCreme, who sadly came in fifth and won “Miss Congeniality” in an online fan vote. When Ben was cut (too quickly in my opinion) I became firmly entrenched in #TeamBianca.
Bianca was hysterical in the Snatch Game where she channeled Judge Judy “Baloney” Scheindlin. She also blew the competition away in a stand-up comedy challenge before a surprise audience made up of senior citizens. She started by welcoming the “cast of Cocoon” to the show and promised them new tennis balls for their walkers at the end. Bianca later said that when she saw who the audience was, she chucked out most of her planned material and made new stuff up on the spot. Brilliant.
As sharp as she could be on the outside, Bianca also showed an inner soft side. She helped young contestant Adore Delano who had been called out twice by the judges for not cinching her waist, by lending her a corset, and offering her well-seasoned advice.
Last year, RuPaul got it right picking the ultra-talented Jinkx Monsoon as the next Drag Superstar, and this year she got it right too by crowning the clown.
